Opticians in Kilmarnock join forces
Two opticians in Kilmarnock are merging their practices in order to support the future of high-quality eye care in the local community.
Optical Express has joined forces with local independent, Urquhart Opticians, with patients invited to visit the latter’s premises in Kilmarnock and Galston as of 1st July for future appointments.
The merger will allow patients to continue to receive high standards of eye care from a short distance away, with Urquhart’s Kilmarnock practice situated just a six-minute walk from Optical Express, and the additional option of visiting their team in Galston – a 15-minute drive away.
All patient records from Optical Express in Kilmarnock, including contact lens details and supply, have been safely and confidentially transferred to the new premises at Urquhart Opticians.
Urquhart Opticians are a well-established independent opticians with several practices across the west coast of Scotland, and have been serving communities throughout the region for over 100 years. At their Kilmarnock and Galston practices, patients will be able to take advantage of an extensive frame selection and the latest state-of-the-art technology, alongside tailored care and vision solutions.
Alistair Duff, Clinical Director at Urquhart Opticians, said: “As a team, we’re really excited for this merger. We want to ensure that the Kilmarnock community and patients in the wider area continue to receive the best possible care for their eyes, and hope that this move will enable us to do so.
“We’re really looking forward to welcoming the dedicated and loyal patients of Optical Express, Kilmarnock, and can guarantee that their welcome will be a warm one.”
Led by Practice Manager, Angela Simpson, Urquhart Opticians’ Kilmarnock and Galston locations consist of experienced teams of optical professionals, with all optometrists at these locations having obtained their Independent Prescriber qualification.
The IP qualification allows the team to provide an elevated service of care by enabling the team to prescribe relevant medication to patients for eye conditions and alleviate some of the strain currently faced by the NHS.
Patients will also benefit from the recently added Optomap technology at their Kilmarnock practice; a revolutionary scanning laser imaging system that allows optometrists to capture detailed images of the eye, including the extreme peripheral areas of the retina.
The team have also invested in state-of-the-art Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) technology at both their Kilmarnock and Galston practices, which has become the ‘gold standard’ in eye care over recent years.
