Find lasting relief from dry, irritated eyes with Urquhart's dedicated Dry Eye & Ocular Hygiene Clinic, offering expert assessments, personalised treatment plans, and ongoing care at Clarkston, Kilmarnock and Ayr.
At Urquharts we see patients on a regular basis who suffer from the common condition of Dry Eye. Dry eyes occur when your tears are not able to produce adequate lubrication for your eyes. The NHS estimates that up to 1 in 3 people over the age of 65 suffers from Dry Eye. That's why at Urquharts we've introduced a dedicated Dry Eye & Ocular Hygiene Clinic at our Clarkston, Kilmarnock & Ayr practices. Our Optometrists Andrew and James will spend time with you, understanding your lifestyle and what is causing your symptoms, before recommending a treatment plan that will manage your Dry Eye.

Symptoms vary for everyone but include:
Dry eye has numerous possible causes, including advancing age, hormonal changes, refractive eye surgery, certain medications and general health conditions such as connective tissue disease and Sjögren's syndrome. Contact lens wear, dry environments and computer use can also lead to dry eye.
Eye conditions such as abnormal eyelid position, meibomian gland dysfunction, anterior blepharitis, rosacea and ocular allergy also have an impact.
We will work to identify the root cause which will also assist in your treatment plan.
You will be asked to complete and return a questionnaire in advance of your initial appointment. This includes details of your symptoms and of any previous diagnoses and treatments and will be discussed in full at your appointment.
Your initial appointment will last up to an hour, and while this can be tailored to your particular symptoms, a typical appointment has a structured approach including the following assessments.
Detailed history taking, osmolarity testing as required, Schirmer tests, slit lamp assessment of eyelids, lashes, tear film and ocular surface. Each initial appointment for this clinic also includes Zest Ocular Hygiene ( a deep clean of the eyes).
You will be given a management plan including advice on recommended treatment options. One follow up appointment is included in pricing and some conditions require longer term, regular review.
