Meet The Team - Lindsay Kerr

Name – Lindsay Kerr

Why did you get in to Optics?

I hadn't originally planned to get into optics. I applied for my first part time job in optics when I was at University studying business. But 6 years on and I'm still in the industry and I have not looked back.

Where did you study? / What qualifications do you have?

I have an honours degree in Business Management which I gained studying at the University of West of Scotland. I have also completed an optical consultant apprenticeship.

How long have you been with Urquhart Opticians and what do you enjoy most about your job?

I haven't been with Urquhart Opticians long, one month to be exact but I am really enjoying it. I take the most pleasure in helping customers to feel happy and confident when choosing new glasses. It can be quite daunting to come in for an eye test and find out that your prescription has changed and that you need new glasses but that's why I am here. To put you at ease and use my experience to find you new glasses that you love.

What is your favourite brand of eyewear and why?

I love Prada frames. Especially the over the top sunglasses they have. I think they cater to lots of different people. They have frames that are vintage and funky but also ones that are more elegant and classy.

What is your most memorable patient experience?

I love helping people to look and feel confident so when we had a young boy desperate not to have to wear his glasses to his primary school leavers dance, it was fantastic to help him achieve this with teaching him to use contact lenses. It is even better now that he can use them confidently he has more freedom to switch between his glasses and contact lenses.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

I love to travel. I love visiting new places I haven't been before especially in Europe. This year I visited Budapest, Barcelona, London and Berlin. I love meeting new people and it is always a bonus if they live somewhere different to go and visit them. I also have a dog who lives at home with my mum so any spare time I have is usually spent in a park going long walks with him.

Where is your favourite holiday destination?

Portugal is my favourite and I try to go every year.

What is your favourite movie?

Easy. The Hangover. Doesn't matter how many times I watch it, I will always laugh from start to finish.

What is your favourite book?

All of the Harry Potter books.

One interesting fact about yourself?

I have done a skydive. I jumped out of a plane at 14,000ft overlooking the great barrier reef in Australia. Probably the most amazing yet terrifying experience of my life.
