Meet the Team - Ashley Paterson

Why did you get into Optics?

By accident! I graduated from University with a degree in Forensic Science but was already enjoying a career in retail management. After 10 years as a Store Manager I decided a change was needed and went to work for Optical Express. I loved the role and have been building my career in Optics for 5 years now.

How long have you been with Urquhart Opticians and what do you enjoy most about your job?

I have been with Urquharts for 3 months now and I am really enjoying meeting patients and getting to know them. I am also enjoying working with Shamir lenses as they are great quality and there is a solution for every need.

What is your favourite brand of eyewear and why?

As a glasses wearer myself, I have always had a selection of frames but a personal favourite is RayBan – I like the classic shape aviator and the story behind them. However, I love the stand out colours of our new range, Bevel.

What is your most memorable patient experience?

Mrs Linegar who came in with her husband. She was not due her eye test but spotted a Bevel frame while she was waiting. It was really striking – navy blue with turquoise. Mr Linegar did not need new glasses but bought his wife the new glasses she liked and when she came to collect them she was delighted. They will be celebrating their golden anniversary later this year.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

I enjoy keeping fit, reading and music but mostly I spend time with my family. We love eating out, going to the cinema and days out to the beach or park with a picnic.
