Our Premium Eye Exam includes eye care services in addition to our NHS Eye Examination.
These additional services include OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) which produces a three dimensional image of the retina and optic nerve, meaning your Optometrists can look beneath the surface of your retina and better understand the very fine changes which can be indications of something unhealthy or abnormal. This more indepth diagnosis can highlight conditions before they become an issue, for example, Glaucoma, Age-Related Macular Degeneration, Diabetic Retinopathy, Retinal Detachments and much more.
This service is currently only available in our Kilmarnock practice and if booked at the time of your appointment, only costs £25. If booked following your appointment, as a follow up examination, it costs £40.
The most important part of our service is the eye examination.
Using the latest technology your Optometrist will assess every aspect of your eye health and take time to explain any findings. The eye examination consists of an external examination, followed by specific tests for visual acuity, pupil function, visual fields and intraocular pressure. It can pick up early signs of eye conditions such as glaucoma and macular-degeneration, as well as detecting underlying general health problems, including diabetes and high blood pressure. Our expert approach ensures you leave our practice knowing that not only has your sight been thoroughly tested, but many aspects of your general health as well.
At Urquhart Opticians we offer a wide range of contact lenses to meet your needs, including Acuvue, Biofinity and MyDay – all competitively priced and fitted by your Optometrist.
Wearing contact lenses gives you freedom and convenience. During your sight test the Optometrist will discuss the options available to you – based on prescription and lifestyle. We will offer you a free trial, with as many products as you require, until you are happy with the comfort and visibility of the lens. We include all aftercare within your monthly cost and we can send your contact lenses direct to your home.
We care for many different aspects of your eye health and our Opticians in Kilmarnock provide Diabetic Retinopathy Screening.
Diabetic retinopathy is among the most common causes of sight loss in the working age population. It occurs when high blood sugar levels damage the cells at the back of the eye (known as the retina). Screening involves taking digital photographs of the retina followed by a two or three-stage image grading process to identify the changes of sight-threatening diabetic retinopathy. As well as your sight test, screening is offered annually to all people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes aged 12 or over.
Urquhart Opticians is one of the few eye care providers who still specialise in Low Vision Aids.
For some patients, there comes a time when conventional spectacles can no longer help and surgery or medical treatment is not appropriate, or very prolonged. In this scenario, your Optometrist will assess your needs and recommend low vision aids from simple hand-held lenses to electronic devices. There are a variety available for different visual tasks and your Optometrist will take time to explain the use of each, based on your needs.
Urquhart Opticians also has an exclusive agreement with OrCam to offer their wearable artificial vision technology, My Eye. This revolutionary small, glass mounted camera, ear piece and pocket sized computer reads text to the visually impaired wearer, interpreting everything from books and letters, to menus, signs and even, faces.
If you are housebound and unable to visit one of our Opticians in Kilmarnock, Prestwick, Troon or Glasgow, then we can provide a home visit service. This allows you to have your eyes examined by one of our experienced Optometrists in the comfort of your own home. Our home visit team have all the necessary equipment to carry out a full sight test and carry a wide range of frames, should you require them.
All our domiciliary optometrists are fully qualified and members or fellows of the British College of Optometrists and attend further training on a regular basis.
Employers are legally obliged under the Health & Safety regulations to provide eye care for VDU users, clerical staff, drivers and protective eyewear for industrial workers.
At Urquhart Opticians, we can care for your employees eyes in every way – conventional glasses or safety spectacles. We already work with a number of large corporate organisations to provide a range of protective prescription eyewear that is suitable for all working environments. In many cases, our Optometrists will come onsite to test your employees eyes, ensuring the least disruption to your working day.
